Etana offers a range of specialist agricultural insurance products designed meet the specific risk needs of the farming community. Solutions are tailoRED to the specific requirements of each insuRED farmer, which means you only pay for the cover you need.

Although our agricultural insurance is sold through the Etana Agri centre of excellence in Malmesbury, Western Cape, it is available nationally through our “local is lekker” branch and broker network.

Our brokers are mandated to make decisions in the field regarding underwriting issues, avoiding inconvenient delays, and Etana Agri continually evaluates portfolios to ensure that the most competitive rates are always applied.

Our agricultural offering is not a house owners or commercial policy that has simply been stretched to fit the typical farming operation. Rather, it is a unique comprehensive insurance product developed specifically with the farming community in mind. The coverage is written to specific farming risks covering dwellings, personal contents, farm buildings, machinery and equipment as well as agricultural liability.

Over and above traditional commercial and domestic cover, the policy includes cover specific to agricultural- and farming-related needs such as pumps and electric motors,
irrigation pipes and pumping equipment, property in the open, spay irrigation systems on wheels and centre pivots, paddock and boundary fences, damage to water tanks and water apparatus, produce and livestock in transit, droving, escaping of animals and stray animals, spreading of fire and various farming related risks to vehicles

A number of individual risks exposures are cateRED for, including wine (co-operative and estate wine cellars), fruit, packaging and cooling plants, warehousing, exports, raisins, product guarantee, product recall and product liability with regards to exports to USA and Canada, plastic tunnels, shade cloth, growing plant material and trellised structures, unique underwriting measures with regards to poultry and warehouse liability (contractual).

Marcel Wood

Marcel Wood heads Etana’s risk management division. Before starting in insurance he worked for the fire department, rescuing people and (literally) putting out fires. He’s passed through Munich Re and Santam, and has designed the only risk management tool aimed specifically at the insurance industry – ARQ. Marcel is a mean guitarist, a brilliant vocalist and an accomplished soccer player with the personal motto: “Do your best all the time”.
