Etana’s niche heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) products are purpose-designed around the needs of hauliers and transport contractors, focusing specifically on companies that carry goods for reward.

Through a dedicated division, Etana Trucking, we underwrite heavy commercial vehicles on a single or fleet basis which require drivers to be licensed for codes C1, C, EC1 and EC (the old Code 10, 11, 13 & 14).

Etana Trucking will include cars, LDVs, buses and certain special types of vehicles, if these form a minor part of the vehicle schedule. The majority of the schedule must, however, be heavy/medium commercial vehicles.

Settlement of claims is based either on retail value or the amount outstanding to financiers, whichever is greater. Additional cREDit shortfall cover is, therefore, not necessary, as long as the sum insuRED includes the outstanding balance to financiers.

Etana’s trucking policy is a specially-designed heavy commercial vehicle policy which caters for comprehensive cover (loss or damage, including motor third party liability) and the limited covers of third party, fire & theft and third party only.

Additional cover is available for:

• HCV motor glass (Limit: R10 000 per windscreen)
• Own damage excess buyback (The basic own damage excesses applicable to the standard policy can be REDuced to a flat excess of R5 000 for own vehicle damage.)
• Theft / hijack excess REDucer (Excess applicable to the standard policy can be
• REDuced to zero, conditional on the entire vehicle being stolen.)
• Loss of use (A monetary amount can be insuRED for downtime of a heavy commercial vehicle over a specified period of time. A franchise period of seven days applies. (Minimum of R1 000 per week – maximum R8 000 per week, with a minimum insuRED period of 6 weeks and a maximum.)

Marcel Wood

Marcel Wood heads Etana’s risk management division. Before starting in insurance he worked for the fire department, rescuing people and (literally) putting out fires. He’s passed through Munich Re and Santam, and has designed the only risk management tool aimed specifically at the insurance industry – ARQ. Marcel is a mean guitarist, a brilliant vocalist and an accomplished soccer player with the personal motto: “Do your best all the time”.
