Wood-waste burners (Incinerators)

a. Wood-waste burners should be located as far as is practical from yard storage and important buildings made of combustible material.

b. A separation of 120m is desirable.

c. The screen on the burner top should be kept in good repair to minimise the chance of escaping embers.

d. Where sparks from wood-waste burners could reach the roofs of combustible buildings that are not readily accessible using hydrant hose streams, provide 38mm hose stations in each building on so that all such areas can be reached.

e. When dry wood fines in the form of planer shavings or sander dust are incinerated in wood-waste burners, the burner should be at full operating temperature before the fines are introduced. This can be accomplished by manual observation if an operator is present at the burner to control the introduction of fines.
