Keegan Campos celebrating the end of the season by doing burnouts for spectators at the Zwartkops Raceway
Jason went into the race keen to finish the season with another podium place, while Keegan was focused on getting acclimatised to his new car in preparation for the new season.
In race one, Jason showed great form by clinching another podium finish to take third, while Keegan used this heat as an extra test session to get used to the car and look for ways to improve the set-up. He qualified in sixth place. Between heats he took the information that he gained from the first race and used this as feedback to his mechanic, who then made the relevant set-up changes.
“I struggled with the car in race one,” Keegan admits. “In practice and qualifying I was half a second off the pace. During the first race I really struggled with my overall pace. We made changes to the car in between heats; this made a huge difference and made us a lot more competitive in the second encounter.”
Jason went one better in the last race of the season by taking a well deserved second – a great way to finish. Keegan’s set-up changes made him feel far more comfortable and confident and he managed to work his way up to a solid fifth place.
Reflecting on the year, Jason says, “It has been an incredibly strong season for Keegan and me. I managed to take my first career victory in Port Elizabeth a couple of meetings back, while Keegan has worked on his driving and showed his ability in moving up to the Super 1600 class to race alongside me. I think we have performed well in what has been our rookie season and we look forward to our prospects in 2012.” Both of their Super 1600 Etana cars will be stripped and rebuilt in preparation for the new season.
