The Insurance Institute of Gauteng (IIG) held its annual golf day on 16 August 2011, and celebrated their centenary, at the Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate.

The day, poweRED by Etana Insurance as the main sponsors, featured several four balls including brokers, insurers and members of the insurance industry.

Starting off the day on the first tee was Etana’s deputy chairman, Rob Hallier, who was accompanied by the IIG president, Winston Skosana, 702’s John Robbie, and former Bafana Bafana number one, Brian Baloyi.

The R100 000 raised from the four balls sold was donated to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). Hallier handed over the cheque to CANSA’s chief business development officer Rachel Wall at the dinner following the golf.

This event tied in with Etana’s involvement with the fight against cancer in South Africa and beyond. The annual DaREDevil Run, which they organise, involves a number of men (of all shapes and sizes) taking to the streets of Jo’burg, Cape Town, Durban, China, the USA and Spain, in nothing but a RED Etana speedo. The cause: promoting awareness for testicular and other male cancers.

This year’s race is scheduled for 4 November in Jo’burg, Cape Town and Durban. To register, visit www.daredevilrun.com and once you have paid the R100 donation towards cancer, you qualify for an Etana speedo and your spot in the race.

Even if you aren’t running, you can still register, donate and support on the day. There’s also a competition where participants can submit a photo or video of themselves doing a dare in their Etana speedo, for the chance to win a trip to Thailand!
