At the recent Destiny 2011, the NMA-ISKA 6th All Africa Open, Sport Martial Arts Championships, held at the Bellville Velodrome in Cape Town, the 22 Etana-supported fighters won 34 medals, 16 of them gold. This was huge achievement considering that the event is the world’s second-biggest martial arts competition and attracts more than 1 000 fighters.

“The team won 16 national titles in their respective divisions, and included in the silver, was a very special second place in the Open Black Belt Championship achieved by Sensei Alnich Strydom,” says Travis MacLachlan from Etana’s George branch, and the person who coordinated the arrangements for the event.

Travis also competed and won his category.

The Etana-supported competitors come from George, Sedgefield and Knysna and range from experienced fighters who own businesses insured by Etana, to eight-year-olds who have just started developing their skills in the sport.

The Etana team’s dedicated coach was always ringside to assist each competitor, while Etanans supported from the sidelines.

Teamwork and support in both business and sport is a crucial when striving for success. “Our internal support definitely made all the difference,” says Travis. “Any event that we get involved in is buoyed by Etana supporters and I have encouraged the same with our martial arts team.”
