Durbs-based Etanans celebrated the company’s second birthday with an inspiRED trip to the brand-new Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The 19-strong team spent the afternoon of 7 May 2010 taking a guided tour of the impressive new stadium, which seats 69 957 people and will host one of the semi-finals in the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup™.
The Etanans, each equipped with a poweRED Etana vuvuzela, had much to trumpet about, with an opportunity to sit in the stands, see the player change rooms and even walk next to the pitch. Like the Germans who will take on Australia’s Socceroos at the stadium on June 13, and the Portugese and Brazilian players who will clash on June 25, the Etanans were mobbed by paparazzi wanting their snaps for front pages across the world. Ok not really.
But the Durbs team did get to take a ride on the SkyCar, a cable car that journeys to the top of the 106m-high arch that spans the stadium. From the top, the Etanans were treated to a magnificent view of the city, the beachfront and the Durban coastline.
Etanan Zuriel Naicker says: “It was a good day out. Luckily in Durban we have good weather and everyone really enjoyed it. It was good to spend some time out of the office.”
Louise Falconer, who is afraid of heights, was persuaded to conquer her vertigo briefly and go up in the SkyCar. She says: “Zuriel forced me to go and the rest of the team were all teasing me, but it was actually quite fun. There is a beautiful view from up there.” Rumours are now abounding that Louise will be bungee-jumping before the World Cup is over…
Following the stadium tour the Etanans, dressed in their finest Etana RED, visited the nearby Keg for drinks and snacks to toast Etana’s second birthday. And what a star toddler their company is!
