On Friday 20 May 2011, Etanans Gianluca Tucci and Tony Tsuen attended a special breakfast forum at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in Illovo, Johannesburg, which was addressed by Lord Levene, chairman of Lloyd’s, the world’s leading specialist insurance and reinsurance market.
Lord Levene, who was elected chairman in November 2002, shared his views and insight into a number of topics relating to the world economy, the insurance market and growth. Among these, his emphasis on recent global events such as the earthquake in New Zealand and tsunamis in Japan cast a significant light onto the impact of natural disasters on the world and its economy. This is particularly apparent in the insurance market, where sustainability is affected and there’s a constant need to be aware of global climate change.
Levene’s insight into China’s rapid development and ultra-modern city infrastructure was impressive. He went on to place emphasis on Africa, and the promise of growth and knowledge in terms of business on the continent.
Tony Tsuen described the forum as, “extremely informative and a pleasure to attend, especially from an insurance-related perspective. The experience and insight Lord Levene provided was invaluable”.
