Doing it for cancer awareness and supporting those with the illness, the daREDevils take to the streets.
The 2011 daREDevil run, organised to create awareness of prostate and testicular cancer and support those combating the disease, was a great success. Much organisation and planning took place ahead of the event, which was held on 4 November in three “local is lekker” cities for the first time – Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban – with CANSA being the main benefactor of the event.
The event also focused on the importance of regular medical tests, as early detection can make all the difference. Visit More Balls than Most for further information on testing.
“The 2011 daREDevil run, as in previous years, is about fighting prostate and testicular cancer, and about the men who are prepared to run in Speedos to show support,” says the organiser of the event, Etanan Kurt Solomon. “Sponsors and partners who came on board did so not to gain exposure, but to contribute to this incredible cause, and volunteer assistance wherever they could.”
For the past three years, Flow Communications has developed and maintained the daREDevil run website pro bono. Flowstars are always on hand to capture and upload content such as news articles, photos and videos of the daREDevil runs.
ER24 provided medical assistance in all three cities, with medics getting into the spirit and cheering on runners from the sidelines.
In Johannesburg, Gage Car Hire sourced and paid for six shuttle cars to transport runners from parking areas at the Johannesburg Zoo and Wits campus to Etana Insurance.
ADT security guards ensured the safety of vehicles parked at various sites and were particularly helpful in directing traffic.
Kurt has a terrific relationship with Vitaminwater, which was more than keen to supply refreshments on the Johannesburg and Durban runs, most welcome to the hundreds of men running in their Speedos. Wilde Fruit Juices kept the Cape Town deREDevils hydrated.
“Etana would like to thank all these partners, and all the Etanans who have done so much to support prostate and testicular cancer awareness,” says Kurt.
